September 9, 2023
In accordance with the Notice of the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education on Conducting Training for Teachers Using the Multilingual Understanding Contemporary China Textbook Series, this plan is formulated to further advance the “Three Entries” initiative (i.e., integrating the multilingual editions of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China into campuses, textbooks, and classrooms). The plan aims to consistently enhance the quality of education and talent cultivation within the School of Foreign Languages, fostering foreign language professionals capable of shouldering the mission of national rejuvenation, serving national strategic needs, and effectively communicating China’s stories to a global audience.
I. Guiding Philosophy
Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the School adheres to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and upholds the leading role of the Communist Party of China (CPC) building. Centering on curriculum-based ideological and political education and leveraging the integrated “Teaching-Learning-Research-Competition” approach, the School promotes the systematic incorporation of the multilingual editions of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China into the entire process of foreign language education, research, and talent cultivation.
II. Key Measures
1. Strengthening Awareness
The School will enhance faculty awareness of the “Three Entries” initiative by leveraging specialized platforms such as the Research Center for Curriculum-based Ideological and Political Education. This will be achieved through dedicated activities on curriculum-based ideological and political education, thematic seminars, and participation in national-level faculty training programs.
2. Emphasizing the Process
The requirements of the “Three Entries” initiative shall be fully implemented in the revised 2023 undergraduate training programs, curriculum systems, teaching materials, and course content. In alignment with course syllabi, the multilingual editions of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China and the Understanding Contemporary China series shall be effectively incorporated into instruction. Through collective lesson planning, demonstration teaching, supervisory evaluation, and peer observation, the School will refine teaching content, innovate instructional methods, and establish effective pedagogical approaches. The teaching effectiveness of relevant courses will also be systematically evaluated.
3. Building Excellence
The School will cultivate high-quality outcomes related to the “Three Entries” initiative, including first-class courses, teaching reform projects, academic publications, and achievements in teaching competitions. Active efforts will be made to integrate the initiative into major contests such as the FLTRP “Teaching Star” Contest, the “SFLEP Cup” National Foreign Language Teaching Contest, and the National Teaching Innovation Competition for University Teachers.
4. Integrating into Practice
Students’ practical competencies will be enhanced through innovation in practice-oriented courses, the development of off-campus practice platforms, and universal participation in disciplinary competitions. Cooperation with institutions such as the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum and PowerChina Zhongnan Engineering Corporation will be strengthened. Students will be encouraged to participate in major national competitions, including the National Intercultural Competence Competition, the “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Proficiency Competition, and the “SFLEP Cup” National Intercultural Competence Contest.
5. Promoting Communication
Opportunities such as overseas study and participation in international academic conferences will be leveraged to effectively tell China’s stories, particularly those of Hunan, and to present the “Voice of China” and the “Voice of CSU.” The School will strengthen ideological guidance for faculty and students going abroad and ensure timely summarization of relevant achievements.
6. Summary and Promotion
The progress of the “Three Entries” initiative will be publicized through the official websites of Central South University and the School of Foreign Languages, as well as the School’s official media platforms, including the “CSU Foreign Languages - Thousand Words” WeChat account. Special columns such as “Telling Hunan’s Stories in Foreign Languages” will be launched to collect and showcase outstanding works by faculty and students.
