English Majors (Class of 2020) Successfully Complete Teaching Internships March 26, 2024

From March 10 to 23, 2024, English majors from the Class of 2020, organized by the Department of English, completed two-week teaching internships at the First Affiliated Middle School of Central South University, the Second Affiliated Middle School of Central South University, or the Foreign Language Center for Non-Majors.

A pre-internship orientation was held on the afternoon of March 6 in the lecture hall on the first floor of the school building. Associate Dean Yan Hongfu emphasized the importance of the internship for professional development. The Department of English formulated detailed internship regulations and portfolio guidelines. Department Head Yan Yong and Associate Head Tian Sha provided detailed instructions on internship tasks, discipline, and safety protocols.

On March 8, the Second Affiliated Middle School of Central South University, a designated English teaching internship base, welcomed the first group of interns, who received training led by Tang Chunwu, a Changsha City-level Distinguished Teacher and Lead English Teacher. On March 10, internships at the First Affiliated Middle School of Central South University and the Foreign Language Center for Non-Majors commenced successively. During the internship, students shadowed frontline English teachers in classrooms, observing classes, analyzing student learning contexts, and examining instructional designs. After class, interns reviewed their performance through group discussions; they prepared lessons, conducted trial teaching, and completed lesson plans under faculty supervision; they practiced collaborative teaching and peer lesson observations. Through interactions with both university-based and school-based mentors, the interns actively reflected on teaching methodologies, continuously refining their teaching philosophies while demonstrating strong collaborative, communication, and learning capabilities.

This internship served as a crucial bridge between theoretical knowledge and practical application, marking a significant milestone in the students' professional development. Through this experience, students developed improved teaching skills, a strengthened sense of teamwork, and professional ethics in education.
